With just over a month to go until his highly anticipated bout against Ben Askren, Jorge Masvidal will take on fellow UFC welterweight Anthony Pettis in a jiu jitsu match on June 15.
The grappling match will take place at DT Promotions in Pensacola, Florida, and has been hyped as a ‘jiu jitsu superfight’, per MMA Fighting’s Dave Meltzer.
Top UFC middleweight contender Yoel Romero will also compete at the event, but his opponent remains a mystery.
Just three weeks after the Pettis match, Masvidal will take on Askren, the former Bellator and ONE FC welterweight champion, at the blockbuster UFC 239 pay-per-view on July 6. ‘Gamebred’ rocketed up the welterweight ranks after his stunning knockout of Liverpool’s Darren Till at UFC Fight Night 147.
As for Pettis, the former WEC and UFC lightweight titleholder, the Duke Roufus product will take on fan favorite Nate Diaz in a highly anticipated bout at UFC 241. The pay-per-view, which is expected to feature Daniel Cormier vs. Stipe Miocic as the main event, takes place later this year, Aug. 17 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
